Patreon, the platform used by many adult game developers, has announced changes to the way they’ll be billing patrons in a blog post detailing some of the company’s planned roll-outs for 2021. The changes will have an impact on creators who have the charge up front feature enabled.
Currently, users will get charged the minute they sign up as a patron and will be billed on the 1st of every month. Some patrons are confused by this behavior and feel they get doubly charged, leading to fewer sign-ups towards the end of a month and increased cancellations at the beginning of a new month. To combat this, Patreon will introduce anniversary billing, where the monthly renewal date will be the same date a patron joined, somewhere during 2021.
According to Patreon, anniversary billing results in fewer cancellations and more sign-ups. The change is subject to a pilot test and the company is also still gathering community feedback, but Patreon is confident it will be able to implement the new changes in the upcoming year.
Well, it certainly will make Patreon much more competitive with OnlyFans for sure, since that’s been their way of doing business for the longest time.
