Late tonight (GMT), developers who were publishing their IPs via GameJolt got a surprising email from the company.
Without any prior notice or heads up, creators were met with an email explaining that the hosting and distribution of adult games has been discontinued, stating that.
[…] we strive to be mindful of content that may not be suitable for users of all ages or may be offensive or sulturally inappropriate to certain regions.
They then go on to add
With the above fact in mind, and being aware of where responsibilities lie, we have made the decision to no longer allow content that depicts, solicits, promotes, normalizes, or glorifies sexual act, sexual solicitation, and sexual violence.
You can read the full email below.
Gamejolt never really garnered any new support for me or many other adult VN devs i believe. So no loss really.
And thats why i use itchio when it comes to nsfw games not on steam
Such a risky decision. It would make sense to instead have warnings or allow adult content to be accessed by only people with accounts that have viewing them enabled. To just destroy so much content simply because some people may take offense to it eliminates a large portion of your customers.
